In general, the department is currently assigned by the Centre to offer two levels of courses, namely the centre required courses and the specialized courses, with eight courses in total.

The centre required courses, which is a level of courses meant for all students of the Centre, offers the following two compulsory courses, entitled Understanding Islam I and Understanding Islam II. The two-aformentioned compulsory courses ought to be taken by the students with the aims of enhancing their current knowledge about Islam and inculcating their existing values with Islamic values. Both of the two courses are offered in both Arabic and English languages, whereby the two said courses will be offered in Arabic to students with Arabic Language based programme (i.e BAR and ARCOMM students), so as in English to students with English Language based programme (e.g. HS, BEN, and LAW students). Upon the completion of these courses, it will relatively help IRK students to make decision of which specialization will they choose when pursuing their studies at undergraduates level. Three specializations are awaiting them upon their registration at Gombak main campus, either al-Qurʿān and Al-Sunnah, Uṣūluddīn & Comparative Religion, or Fiqh and Uṣūl al-Fiqh, namely after one academic year of study at this Centre.

Currently, the department is home to a team of dedicated and experienced academic staff from variety of places of their previous educational institution. The staff are capable of undertaking multi-disciplined courses though they are streamlined to teach various programmes according to their expertise and specialisation.
