JOHOR BARU: Outgoing Johor Crime Prevention and Community Safety department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Ramli has no regrets in his 41 years of service to the police and the country.

The 60-year-old, who is retiring on Saturday, said following in his late father’s footsteps to become a police was a dream come true for him.

“My father was always my hero, and from a very young age, I wanted to be just like him,” he said at his handover of duties ceremony at the state police headquarters here.

SAC Yahaya, who holds a law degree from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa, said that he started his journey in the force way back in Oct, 1977, in Kuala Lumpur as a trainee inspector.

“I am thankful that I am able to complete my service in the force knowing that I have managed to achieve all the goals I set,” he added.

The father of five said the 41 years of service as a police officer had given him many unforgettable and bittersweet memories.

SAC Yahaya also thanked all the officers he had worked with, especially district police chiefs in the state for being proactive in conducting programmes to improve security and crime prevention.

“I hope you will not only continue the momentum but also always strive to be better.

“I wish all of you a great career ahead and I trust that you will continue to protect the state well,” he added.

His deputy, Asst Comm Kamal Faizul Mohd Zaim, will be the acting state Crime Prevention and Community Safety department chief until Bukit Aman announces SAC Yahaya’s replacement.

Meanwhile, Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Kamaruddin Md Din, who witnessed the ceremony, congratulated SAC Yahaya for his impressive achievements and dedication in the force.

“Throughout his years in service, SAC Yahaya has acquired a lot of valuable knowledge that have helped him and the force to excel.

“I hope he will continue to assist the police in the form of training during his retirement years,” he said.
