The programme is designed to cater to candidates who intend to master specialized Islamic sciences in the fields of Qur’an and Sunnah Studies. In addition to core and specialization courses, the programme has also incorporated relevant courses from other departments as electives with the purpose of enhancing students’ knowledge and research skills in other fields of Islamic studies. The contents of the courses are designed to enable students to conduct independent research which is interdisciplinary in nature.

Programme Description

The programme is composed of 40 credit hours and it is offered in three modes: (i) by coursework and research (ii) by research only  and (iii) by coursework only. In the first mode, students are required to accumulate 25 credit hours of coursework and 15 credit hours of dissertation. The second mode is restricted to candidates with previous experience in publication. In the third mode, there are  34 credit hours of coursework and 6 credit hours of academic exercise.

Entry Requirements

  1. A relevant Bachelor’s degree with good grade from IIUM or any other accredited institutions of higher learning, or other certificates that are recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional qualifications and experience that are recognized by the Senate of the University.
  2. Applicants are required to obtain the following Arabic and English proficiency levels:

IELTS - Band 6

Note: Students are required to provide evidence of English proficiency by submitting their proficiency certificates before the beginning of the programme. If they fail to do so, they will be required to sit for the IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT).
