Expert Profile


Abdul Rahman Ahmad Dahlan obtained his B.Sc (Hons) in Computation from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), United Kingdom, and an MBA from the Business Graduate School, University Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1999. He is a member of the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) as Professional Technologist since August 2020. Ts. Abdul Rahman has more than 20 years of experiences in the ICT industry before entering the academia in November 2009. He has worn various ICT and business-based hats during his career, including as the General Manager cum Head of ICT-based company, General Manager and Manager cum Head of ICT departments, Director of the National KnowledgeGRID Malaysia programme, Project Director and Project Manager of various project sizes, ICT strategic planners, system & database administrator, network administrator, analyst programmer, as well as the business development and corporate planner. 

He has setup (a) a new IT-based company, MRCB Software Vision Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary company of Malaysian Resources Corp. Bhd. (MRCB), and (b) a new IT department of the New Straits Time Press Bhd. (NSTP). He was fully responsible for the profitability of several IT-based companies including MRCB Software Vision Sdn. Bhd. and Telekom Smart School Sdn. Bhd.

He has managed and delivered ICT-based projects of sizes varying from a few hundred thousand ringgit worth to projects worth multi-millions of ringgit for internal and external customers, both at national and international levels. He has conducted various business studies, analysis and made recommendations to management on: (a) Business performance improvement plans for profitability & competitiveness of companies, (b) Identifying business opportunities, development of new businesses ventures & partnerships, and (c) valuing potential worth of companies for possible merger & acquisition.

Presently, Ts. Abdul Rahman is a full-time senior academic fellow in the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His was one of the former Deputy Deans/Directors, Office of Corporate Strategy (OCS), IIUM from July 2012 - Dec 2017; and the former Director of OCS/OSIC (Office for Strategy & Institutional Change, IIUM) reporting directly to the Rector from 1 January 2018 - 1 January 2020. He was part of the core team responsible in developing & establishing IIUM Strategic Plan 2013 - 2020, IIUM Transformation Plan, and IIUM Roadmap 2019 - 2020.

He has taught Master Degree courses in IT Strategy & Governance; Project & Change Management; Knowledge Management; Risk Management; System Development Methodologies; Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Emerging Technologies; and Strategic Management. As for Bachelor Degree, courses taught include Management Information System, Information Resource & Strategy Management , Computer Networking,  Technopreneurship, and Project Management in IT. He has contributed eight books, more than 250 articles in various international academic journals and presented papers at various international and national conferences.
