Dr. Muhammad Rashaad Bakashmar is an Assistant Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia. He obtained his Bachelor and Masters degrees from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Ph.D from Monash University, Australia. He began working in the Malaysian private sector in 1997 before moving to academia in 2000. Has worked as a lecturer and Research fellow and has taught at Monash University, Australia, the University of Melbourne and at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

These include journals such as Terrorism and Political Violence; Studies in Conflict and Terrorism; International Journal of Islamic Thoughts; and the International Journal of Political Science, Law and International Relations. Dr. Bakashmar is also the author of the book - "The Rule of Law in Malaysia: a Developmental Perspective" (Berlin: 2010). He has also co-edited (with Sayed Khatab and Ela Ogru) a book titled "Radicalisation Crossing Borders: New Directions in Islamist and Jihadist Political, Intellectual and Theological Thought",? (Melbourne; 2008). Dr. Bakashmar has presented papers in international conferences around the world on topics related to his research interests. Dr. Bakashmar is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science at the International Islamic University Malaysia and is currently seconded to the Kulliyyah of Languages and Management which is located in Johor, Malaysia. Between 2013 an and 2016 Dr Bakashmar served as the Coordinator (English) and a debate trainer for the IIUM World Debate and Oratory Centre (IWON). From 2016 to 2017 Dr Bakashmar served as the Head of Research at the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed knowledge and Human Sciences, at the IIUM Gombak campus. Dr Bakashmar is currently the Principal for the Mahallah Zaid Bin Harithah at the IIUM's Pagoh Campus. Since rejoining the IIUM in 2013, Dr Bakashmar has taught several courses both at the IRKHS and at KLM faculties. These courses include Peace and War, Research methodology, Advanced Research Methodology, Political Economy of Malaysia, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Public Relations and Islamic Movements. Dr Bakashmar has also taught at Monash University Australia and the University of Melbourne in Australia. Dr Bakashmar is currently undertaking research towards producing a textbook on Islamic Principles on Peace and War. The project is sponsored by the International Institute of Islamic Thought and is due for completion in December 2019.
