Occupational Safety, Health and Built Environment Department (OSHBE) would like to take this opportunity to wish for Happy Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, Maaf Zahir Batin to all IIUM Community.


As the long Raya holiday approaches, we would like to remind everyone to prioritize safety and security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind during this festive season:

Campus Safety and Security:

• Ensure that all doors and windows are locked before leaving your office or any campus facility.
• Avoid leaving any valuable items visible and unattended in your office or vehicle.
• Keep an eye out for any suspicious activities or individuals and report them to campus security immediately.
• If you will be away from campus for an extended period, inform your colleagues so they can keep an eye on your workspace.

Office Safety:

• Unplug all electrical appliances and equipment before leaving the office.
• Make sure that all flammable materials are properly stored in designated areas.
• Dispose of all waste and rubbish properly to prevent fire hazards.
• Double-check that any hazardous materials are stored and labeled correctly.

Staff Housing in Campus Safety:

• All staff members residing in campus housing are reminded to check their electrical appliances and wiring before leaving for the holiday.
• Any faulty electrical appliances or wiring should be immediately reported to the maintenance department for repairs.
• All electrical outlets should be unplugged before leaving the house.

Mahallah Safety:

• Ensure that all doors and windows are locked before leaving your room.
• Do not leave any valuables unattended in your room.
• Avoid opening the door to strangers or individuals you are not familiar with.
• If you encounter any suspicious individuals, immediately inform the Mahallah management or campus security.

Trip Safety:

• Plan your trip well in advance, and make sure to book all necessary accommodations and transportation options ahead of time.
• Check the weather and road conditions before departing, and be prepared for any unexpected changes or delays.
• Make sure that your vehicle is in good working order and has been serviced recently.
• Always wear your seatbelt and ensure that all passengers do the same.
• Avoid driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• Take regular breaks to avoid fatigue while driving, and switch drivers if necessary.
• Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or valuables while traveling, and keep your belongings close at all times.
• Be aware of your surroundings, especially in unfamiliar areas or crowded places.
• Follow all traffic rules and regulations, and be respectful of other drivers and pedestrians.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

• Familiarize yourself with the location of emergency exits and assembly points on campus.
• In case of emergency, follow the guidelines provided by campus security or emergency response personnel.
• If you hear the fire alarm or any other emergency alarm, leave the building immediately and do not use elevators.
• Keep a copy of emergency contact numbers with you at all times.
