The Legal Unit has been officially established in 2004. The paper for the establishment was brought by the Majlis in its meeting no. 67. The management of the University views that the University is in dire need of a Legal Unit due to increasing number of litigation matters involving the University, which are related to students, staff and the University as the whole necessitating and entity of its own under the Office of the Rector.

Furthermore, there is a need for a central unit which fuctions as an advisor to the University on legal issues as well as constitutional issues concerning the University. With the expansion and the rapid development of the University there are lot of agreements, contracts and memorandum of Understanding to be executed by the University. Accordingly, there is a need of expertise to vet through the documents before the execution or enforcement of those documents.
