Office of the Legal Adviser was previously known as the Legal Unit. It handle matters related to staff and students' discipline, general litigation cases involving the University, constitutional issues including drafting and vetting of legal documents as well as providing legal opnions on legal issues involving the University.

This office is put under the purview of Office of the Rector. The Office is headed by a Legal Adviser appointed among the academic staff that has vast experience in legal matters. The Legal Adviser is assisted by Assistant Directors in performing day to day duties. Prof. Dr. Nik Ahmad Kamal bin Nik Mahmod is appointed as the Legal Adviser to the University effective on 1st July 2012.

Prof. Dr. Hj. Mohd Akram bin Shair Mohamed was the pioneer Director of Legal Unit, followed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rani bin Kamarudin who started his duty in July 2009 until 31st May 2012. Prior to the appointment of Legal Adviser, Mdm. Fazidah bt Hj Bakhtiar was the Covering Director from 1st June 2012 until 30th June 2012.
