Background

The Institute of Malay World and Islamic Civilisation is the brainchild of the Honourable Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, the Special Advisor to the Government of Malaysia on socio-cultural matters with ministerial status, and President of IIUM. The institute is established to support the efforts of the university in creating an academic and intellectual field of research and studies focusing on the Malay World and Islamic civilisation, covering subjects such as the Ottoman Devlet, Arab Nationalism and other Islamic philosophy.

The main objective is to promote research, publications, scientific & cultural initiatives on Malay world and Islamic civilisation; to encourage talents, scholars and experts from the Muslim world to create common ground for mutual development and relations; to raise awareness on Malay World – Islamic civilisation and their importance in providing space for understanding, appreciation and mutual value creation and benefit; open up channels of scientific and cultural cooperation and exchange between the Malay World and the Muslims at large. It also plans to promote activities on areas of fine arts, literature, cultural values and traditions.

This institute will actively strive in promoting scientific research in unique range of single and multi-disciplinary areas including but not limited to halal research, Islamic banking and the overall maslahah of the Muslimummah
