Expert Profile
Arifin Mamat obtained his B.A (Hons) in Arabic Linguistics from the University of Muhammad V, Morocco and B.A (1st Class Hons) in Shariah from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He obtained his postgraduate Diploma in Education and Master of Education from International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and his Ph.d from University of Birmingham, England in Methods of Teaching Arabic. He worked as a teacher under the Ministry of Education, Malaysia before joining IIUM in 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer.
He was the recipient of the Promising Researcher Award, IIUM in 2009. For his outstanding contribution in education and the teaching of Arabic he was appointed as a member of the the Board of Studies at several universities, namely University Putra Malaysia (UPM), University Selangor (UNISEL) and Teacher Training Institute (IPG), Ministry of Education, Malaysia. He has also been appointed as a referee for several journals.
He works closely with Ministry of Education Malaysia and is regularly consulted to improve the Teaching of Arabic and Islamic Education in Malaysia. He was appointed as an expert by the Ministry of Education to develop Malaysian standard curriculum for primary school (KSSR) and secondary school (KSSM), 2008. He was also the chairman of the board of reviewers of first Arabic textbook for Primary schools, Year 1 under Malaysian Standard Curriculum for Primary School, 2010. He also contributes to teaching Arabic and Islamic Studies through RTM, Ministry of Communication and Multi Media Malaysia.
Presently, Dr Arifin Mamat is an Associate Professor at the Department of Language and Literacy, and Deputy Dean (Post Graduate and Research) at the Kulliyyah of Education.
