Dr Mohd Afandi bin Awang Hamat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh at the AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, IIUM Gombak. He earned a BA, MA and PhD in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh from IIUM, following earlier matriculation at the same university. From 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2020, he served on Public Islamic Bank Berhad’s Shariah Committee, and between 22 March 2019 and 21 March 2021 he sat on the Shariah Committee of AIA Public Takaful Bhd. He continues to lecture and consult on applied Islamic law, focusing on legal maxims, contemporary contract structures and Malaysian banking practice.
