Expert Profile
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Faizul Hadry Nordin is an academic and researcher at the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where he currently serves as an Associate Professor. He holds a Ph.D. in Microbial Bioremediation from the University of Malaya, awarded in 2012, with specialization in the microbial degradation of xenobiotic compounds. With over two decades of teaching experience, Dr. Noor Faizul Hadry has taught courses such as Bioremediation, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Microbiology, Bioinformatics and Halal Sciences at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His research interests span a wide range of interdisciplinary areas including bioremediation and biodegradation, halal sciences and authentication, polar science, microbial technology as well as biosafety and biosecurity. He has published extensively in SCOPUS and ISI-indexed journals, book chapters, and national and international conference proceedings on topics related to environmental microbiology, marine science, environmental biotechnology and metagenomics. Dr. Noor Faizul Hadry also plays a significant leadership role in biosafety governance. He currently serves as the Chairman of the IIUM Institutional Biosafety and Biosecurity Committee (IBBC), where he oversees compliance and safety practices related to biological research and teaching. He is also an Editor of Halalsphere Journal and sits on the editorial boards of several other academic journals. In previous administrative roles, he served as Head of the Department of Biotechnology, Kulliyyah of Science, during the terms 2006–2007 and 2013–2014. In addition to his academic and research roles, Dr. Noor Faizul Hadry is a certified halal trainer and a recognized authority in halal science education and consultancy. He holds international certification as a professional in Biorisk Management and Biosecurity from the International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA), further highlighting his expertise in managing laboratory biosafety systems. He is also a member of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB) and the Malaysian Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (MBBA), reflecting his active engagement in professional networks that promote the advancement of biotechnology and biosafety practices across the region. Known for his cross-disciplinary approach, Dr. Noor Faizul Hadry integrates scientific research with Islamic values and regulatory frameworks, particularly in halal science, making significant contributions to the development of sustainable and ethically compliant technologies. His ongoing work bridges environmental science, halal assurance, and public health, placing him at the forefront of innovation and policy in the biotechnology and halal sectors.
