Expert Profile
Ir. Dr. Mohd. Fairullazi is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Quantity Surveying, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), International Islamic University Malaysia. He joined the academic profession in July 2013 after completed a three-year research Doctorate programme in the Kulliyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University Malaysia. He was awarded the Best Student Award for Doctor of Philosophy (Built Environment) in the 30th Convocation of International Islamic University Malaysia (2014) for his research entitled “Development of Life Cycle Cost Strategy and Protocol on Cost Data Input in Malaysia”. He is a registered professional engineer (P.Eng.) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE). He had undergone several years’ practical experience in the construction projects as an engineer (civil) with a construction company before pursuing career in academic, research and consultancy professions.
He was recognized with the awards of “Best Paper 2014” and “Special Mention Paper 2015” in the 13th and 14th Management in Construction Researchers’ Association (MiCRA) Annual Conference and General Meeting, at the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University Malaysia, Silver winner (2nd place) in the International Research Invention & Innovation Exhibition for 2014 (IRIIE 2014). Apart from that, he was awarded with “University Outstanding Promising Researcher 2016” from the Office of the Deputy Rector (Research and Innovation), International Islamic University Malaysia. He recently selected as an Award Recipient of Top 30 Contributors to IIUM’s Research Performance, Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) 2018 in IIUM Takrim Day 2019. He has held several administrative and academic positions including Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Coordinator, Member of 20 Years KAED Anniversary Celebration, Member of Management Committee Meeting, Coordinator and Internal Review Committee of Master of Business Administration (Construction Business) programme of Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED). He was also actively involved in several local and international conferences and academic events organized by the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design.
He had held several positions including Secretariat, Organizing Committee and Scientific Review Committee of the Management in Construction Researchers’ Association (MiCRA) Annual Conference and General Meeting, Colloquium Governors of the 2nd IIUM – Kyoto University Research Colloquium – Shari’ah Compliance Issues in Construction, Committee of the KAED Homecoming Alumni 2014, and Editorial Board Committee of KAED Bulletin, Allied Member of National Council of Professors (Majlis Profesor Negara), including the member of Malaysian Association of Facility Management, International Association of Engineers (IAENG), and Institute For Engineering Research and Publication (IFERP). He is presently the Head of Responsible Research and Innovation (HoRRI) for Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, IIUM since July 2019. In addition, he has been appointed as a Chairman of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Viva Voce, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and the External Examiner, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
On research and consultancy, he had led and completed several consultancy works and research projects in Life Cycle Costing (LCC). He had invented several protocols of Life Cycle Costing (LCC) analysis with specific reference to quality data input requirements process for building and road works that had been filed and registered by the Research Management Centre (RMC) of IIUM for copyright and patent with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) since from 2015. In professional practice, he had been invited to conduct LCC training programmes to several public agencies, private clients, facility management companies, design consultants etc. He is a Member of Special Task Force on Sustainable Facilities Management System, IIUM, Member of IIUM Low Carbon Campus, IIUM, and Panel Expert to Review and Legislate the Life Cycle Cost Guidelines Version 2.0 (2023), Public Works Department (PWD), Malaysia. Other than the undergraduate and postgraduate supervision, he teaches Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and Whole Life Costing (WLC) courses in the postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.
