Expert Profile


I joined the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on 28 August 2018. My PhD thesis “Effect of Informativity and Readability on the Comprehension of Arabic Literary Texts” completed at the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2018 focused on examining the relationship between a readability instrument, namely Cloze test and comprehension using summary task. Level of informativity of texts used as moderating variable. My interest in text linguistics, especially in the standard of informativity was then further stimulated when I wrote a journal article “The Manifestation of Robert De Beaugrande’s Standard of Informativity in the Quranic Verses: A Semantic Study” in Journal of Linguistic and Literary Studies in 2018. My interest in readability later enhanced when I presented a paper at SeIPTI Regional Conference at UNISSA, Brunei Darussalam. The paper entitled: “Methods of Readability in Simplifying Arabic Literary Texts: A Study on Ibnu Fatumah Travel Novel”. The courses I have taught at IIUM include Introduction to General Linguistics (Arabic), Arabic Syntax, Introduction to Translation, Practical Translation, Applied Linguistics and Research Methodology. I am supervising PhD and Masters theses mainly in the field of Arabic Syntax and Teaching Arabic as Second Language. My work at IIUM manifests an interplay between readability and text linguistics. However, I have recently shown interest in methods of teaching Arabic Syntax. In 2019 I published a journal article: “The Usage of Kaana Clauses in the Arabic Novels Translated from English: A Study on Tense and Aspect” in Journal of Islam in Asia.  I previously was an academic trainee at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, KIRKHS, IIUM since 2011 until 2018.
