Expert Profile
Dr. Mahbubi hails from from Indonesia and holds a PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He obtained his master’s degree in Islamic finance from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), and his bachelor’s degree in Islamic finance from Tazkia University College, Bogor, Indonesia.
He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF). He is also a member of the Islamic Finance Development Committee at the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK), an Islamic Finance Expert at the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB), and a registered Shariah Adviser with the Securities Commission Malaysia. Internationally, he is a Member of the Curriculum Review Committee of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), Bahrain. He also serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Experts for Summit Bank Nigeria; Shariah Consultant at AIFA Consulting; Member of the Shariah Committee at CIMB Islamic Bank; Shariah Committee Member for FWD Takaful Sdn Bhd; and Shariah Advisor to Dar al-Muraja’ah al-Shar’iyyah, Bahrain.
Previously, Dr. Mahbubi served as a Board Member at ZICO Shariah Advisory; Chairman of the Shariah Committee at Affin Islamic Bank Berhad; and Head of the Economics, Finance, Awqaf and Zakat Unit cum Associate Principal Fellow at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS Malaysia). He also worked as a researcher at the International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) Malaysia. Dr. Mahbubi is widely recognized for his contributions to the development of Islamic finance through active research and thought leadership. His scholarly works are frequently referenced by students, practitioners, and academics in the field.
