Expert Profile


Dr. Nur Affah is a professional in construction management with over 20 years of experience in academia, research, and community service. She earned her PhD in Construction Management from Loughborough University in the UK and holds a Master of Management degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia. Her professional credentials include being a Registered Professional Technologist with the Malaysia Board of Technologies and a Registered Provisional Quantity Surveyor with the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia. Additionally, she is a CIDB-Certified Trainer in Building Information Modelling (BIM) Project Quantification. She has completed the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Professional Training, gaining practical knowledge in sustainability reporting and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. Additionally, she has completed the MDEC Technopreneurship Training, focusing on digital entrepreneurship and innovation skills.     

Currently, she serves as the Head of the Technology Transfer Office, where she drives the commercialisation of innovative technologies. Her administrative roles have included leadership positions such as Head of the Quantity Surveying Department and various pivotal roles within academic governance. She has been instrumental in developing and enhancing educational programmes, notably the Bachelor of Quantity Surveying and the Master of Construction Business programs. As an educator, she has taught courses such as Principles of Measurement for Building Works, Principles of Estimating for Building Works, Strategic Management of Construction Business, Integrated Multidisciplinary Project, and Research Methods for the Built Environment.   

Her current research focuses on sustainable facilities management in elderly care centres, reflecting her commitment to addressing critical societal issues through scholarly inquiry. She has mentored numerous postgraduate and undergraduate students, guiding research endeavours primarily in Construction Management, Human Resource Management, and Ethics in Construction. As a dedicated member of the Sustainable Facilities Management Research Group, Dr. Nur Affah has also made significant contributions as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Architecture, Planning, and Construction Management. She has participated as an organising committee member, vetting panel member, and adjudicator for several significant international surveying conferences.   

Beyond academia, Dr. Nur Affah's engagement includes her attachment to CIMB Group through the CEO@Faculty Programme 2.0 in 2018, where she gained valuable experience in CIMB Group's Human Resources and philanthropic initiatives with CIMB Foundation. Her work with the CIMB Foundation includes organising the 'Be$MART Financial Literacy Programme' for IIUM, Mozek Camps, and the Young ASEAN Leader programme. She also played a key role in the 'Integrated High Impact CSR Angkat 1.0', collaborating with JPT, MOHE, CIMB Foundation, and Epic Homes to secure funding and construct homes for indigenous communities. She was also a mentor for the 'LIGHT: Leadership Enrichment Initiatives Programme,' collaborating with Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), IIUM, and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to nurture emerging leaders. Additionally, she led the 'It's My Turn Project,' which focused on bridging the gap between youth and senior citizens.   

Dr. Nur Affah's extensive contributions across academia, research, and community service highlight her unwavering dedication to advancing knowledge, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing societal well-being through her leadership in education and research.
