Expert Profile
Dr Nur Affah is a professional in construction management with over two decades of experience in academia, research, and community service. She holds a PhD in Construction Management from Loughborough University, UK, and a Master of Management from the International Islamic University Malaysia. Her professional credentials include being a Registered Professional Technologist (Malaysia Board of Technologists) and a Registered Provisional Quantity Surveyor (Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia). She is a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, specialising in sustainability reporting and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. Furthermore, her expertise extends to digital innovation as a CIDB Certified Trainer in Building Information Modelling (BIM) Project Quantification, backed by her completion of the Autodesk Certified Professional Training (Revit and AutoCAD) and the MDEC Technopreneurship Training programme.
Currently serving as the Head of the Technology Transfer Office, Dr Affah spearheads initiatives in research commercialisation and innovation ecosystems. Her administrative leadership is grounded in her tenure as the former Head of the Quantity Surveying Department, where she was instrumental in strengthening the Bachelor of Quantity Surveying and Master of Construction Business curricula. As a dedicated educator, she has taught a wide range of courses, including Strategic Construction Management, Business Administration for Quantity Surveyors, Construction Business, Measurement & Estimating for Building Works, and Integrated Multidisciplinary Projects. Her research portfolio focuses on critical societal infrastructure, specifically sustainable facilities management for elderly care centres. She actively supervises postgraduate and undergraduate research in Construction Management, Construction Technology and Human Resource Management. She has contributed to the profession through roles as an organising committee member, a vetting panel member, and an adjudicator for several significant international surveying conferences. She has also served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Architecture, Planning, and Construction Management.
Beyond academia, Dr Affah was selected for the CEO@Faculty Programme 2.0 and undertook her industry attachment with CIMB Group in 2018, where she was engaged in corporate HR functions, particularly supporting the selection process for The Complete Banker (TCB) Programme. She was also involved in philanthropic initiatives with the CIMB Foundation, organising flagship programs such as the Be$MART Financial Literacy Programme, Mozek Camps, 3D Conquest, Zero Waste Programme, and the Young ASEAN Leader Programme. A strong advocate for social innovation and community development, Dr Affah has led ‘It’s My Turn Project’, a social initiative designed to bridge the intergenerational gap between youth and senior citizens. She contributed significantly to the ‘Integrated High Impact CSR Angkat 1.0’ initiative, collaborating with JPT, MOHE, CIMB Foundation, and Epic Homes to secure funding and build homes for indigenous communities. She also served as a mentor for the ‘LIGHT: Leadership Enrichment Initiatives Programme,’ partnering with Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), IIUM, and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to develop emerging leaders.
Dr Affah’s extensive contributions across academia, industry engagement, research, and community development underscore her commitment to advancing knowledge, innovation, promoting sustainability, and uplifting society through impactful leadership.
