Expert Profile

Asst. Prof. Dr Norhidayah Binti Ahmad is a dedicated academician at the Department of Biomedical Science (DBMS), Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences (KAHS), IIUM. She is a graduate of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science (Environmental and Occupational Health) in 2012.

Dr Norhidayah began her academic career in 2013 as an Academic Trainee at KAHS, IIUM. She was awarded the Skim Latihan Akademik IPTA (SLAI) scholarship to pursue her Master of Science (Safety, Health and Environment) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), which she completed in 2014 with First-Class Honours. During her master’s programme, she conducted research on indoor air quality and sick building syndrome.

Motivated by her strong interest in environmental health research, she was subsequently awarded the SLAI scholarship again to pursue her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Population Health (Medicine). Her doctoral research focused on air pollution and its effects on pregnancy outcomes, during which she successfully developed a novel in vitro model to study air pollution exposure in the human placenta. She graduated in 2020.

A passionate researcher, Dr Norhidayah has secured several national and institutional research grants. Her research interests include environmental and occupational health, industrial hygiene, air pollution exposure and the effects on pregnancy outcomes. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and actively contributes to scientific discourse through research publications and academic presentations.

Beyond research, Dr Norhidayah plays an active role in academic leadership and curriculum development for the Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programme at IIUM. She is deeply committed to teaching excellence, curriculum enhancement and the mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her work reflects a strong dedication to advancing environmental health and OSH research, in line with IIUM’s mission of holistic, ethical, and values-based education.
