Expert Profile
Shahrul Na'im Sidek, a senior member of IEEE, received his B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University, USA, in 1998 and 2008, in electrical engineering respectively. He is currently a professor in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Kulliyyah of Engineering. He is also currently serving as the Dean of Center for Postgraduate Studies, IIUM. Passionate about teaching. In 2012, he won the prestigious "Best Teacher" award at the university level and another award for creativity and innovation on E-Learning content delivery. In research, he is actively engaged in the field of design and development of electromechanical systems and human-machine interfaces, in particular for robot-assisted rehabilitation applications. His research is also focusing on emotion detection using different modalities To date he has secured many research grants with the latest one as a lead investigator in Transdiciplinary Research sponsored by TRGS-MoHE researching on novel training pedagogy for children with autism using adaptive robotics system. He has graduated more than 30 PhD and MSc students as well.
