Dr Muhammad Zaki Bin Ramli is an Assistant Professor at the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuantan Campus. He is a highly regarded academic and researcher with a robust background in biotechnology and biomedical sciences. Dr Zaki holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biotechnology from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). His doctoral training has equipped him with a deep understanding of both industrial and environmental biotechnology, with a special focus on the salivary microbiome and its implications for health. His research interests are broad and interdisciplinary, encompassing industrial and environmental biotechnology, the salivary microbiome, and the biomedical sciences. Within the field of biotechnology, Dr Zaki is especially interested in the industrial and environmental applications of microorganisms. His work in this area contributes to advancements in both environmental health and the development of new biotechnological tools. He has a particular focus on the salivary microbiome, which is increasingly recognised as a critical factor in both oral and systemic health. His research in this area aims to deepen understanding of how microbial communities in the mouth influence disease and health outcomes.


Dr Zaki is actively involved in professional organisations that support the advancement of scientific knowledge and education. He is a life member of the Persatuan Penterjemah Malaysia (Malaysian Translators Association), which reflects his commitment to the dissemination of scientific knowledge across linguistic and cultural boundaries. In 2024, he became a member of the Malaysian Association of Education in the Medical & Health Sciences, further demonstrating his engagement with the broader medical education community and his dedication to the continuous improvement of medical and dental education in Malaysia. At IIUM, Dr Zaki plays a key role in the education of future dental and medical professionals. His teaching responsibilities for the 2024/2025 academic year are wide-ranging and include subjects such as Body Reactions to Physical, Chemical and Biological Agents, Endocrine, Genitourinary, Locomotor Systems, Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Haematopoietic Systems, Head & Neck and Nervous Systems, and Normal Response to Diseased State & Basic Pharmacology. These subjects are fundamental to a comprehensive understanding of human biology, disease mechanisms, and pharmacological principles, and Dr Zaki’s teaching is informed by his extensive research experience and commitment to student learning. Dr Muhammad Zaki Bin Ramli’s expertise in biotechnology and biomedical sciences, combined with his dedication to teaching and professional development, make him a valuable asset to the academic community at IIUM.
