Mohd Hamzah bin Mohd Nasir graduated with a BSc. (Hons) in Biomedicine from University Science Malaysia (USM) before going on to complete an MSc at the La Trobe University, Australia investigating the DNAJ heat shock protein of human malarial parasite Plasmodium falciparum, under the supervision of Dr. Alexander Maier. He then continued his work in malaria research investigating the potential mechanism of cerebral malaria pathogenesis involving matrix-metalloproteases for his Ph.D in Life Sciences at the Institute for Science and Technology in Medicine, Keele University, UK.
