Tan Sri Abdul Rashid bin Hussain, born in 1946, is a distinguished Malaysian entrepreneur and banker best known for founding what became the RHB Banking Group. His illustrious career began in London with Strauss Turnbull in 1971 and upon moving back to Malaysia in 1975, he worked at Bumiputra Merchant Bankers. In 1983, he founded Rashid Hussain Securities, which soon became one of the country’s leading stockbrokers and pioneered in-house equity research by 1985. His leadership built RHB into a fully integrated financial powerhouse encompassing commercial and merchant banking, stockbroking, finance and insurance.

Alongside his banking achievements, he chaired Putrajaya Holdings (1995–2000) and served on the board and executive committee of Khazanah Nasional from 1994 to 1998. In December 2023, he was appointed Chairman of Tabung Haji, where he has focused on resolving legacy issues, stabilising the fund’s finances, and reinforcing its investment team.
On 1 July 2025, Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain was named the 10th President of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for a three‑year term. He had already been a member of IIUM’s Board of Governors since 2018 and had been serving as Pro‑Chancellor of UTeM since 2024. His appointment has been welcomed for his strong background in Islamic finance and corporate governance, with hopes high that he will elevate IIUM’s academic excellence and global standing.

A visionary leader in both corporate and academic realms, Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain brings decades of strategic foresight, leadership, and commitment to institutional excellence grounded in Islamic values.
