Expert Profile


As a lecturer and a clinical psychologist, Jamilah Hanum’s career in the field of psychology includes work with individuals in academic settings and clinical settings. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge & Human Science, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She also practices her clinical skills and provides psychological services at Psychological Services Unit in the department. Her previous experience includes Executive of Human Resources & Administration with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS). She worked in the area of human development, human planning and budgeting, and recruitment. 

Jamilah Hanum was educated at the International Islamic University Malaysia (Bachelor of Human Sciences – Psychology), the University of Melbourne (Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology), the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Master in Clinical Psychology), and the Universiti Putra Malaysia (Doctor of Philosophy in Psychological Medicine). Jamilah Hanum was the recipient of the Al-Razi Award (Best Student in Psychology) when she did her bachelor degree. She graduated with high distinction for her Master’s and during her Ph.D. candidature, she received quite a number of Travel Grant Award for international conference presentations. 

For the past ten years, she is a recipient of many research grants such as International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), Transdisciplinary Research Grant Scheme (TRGS), Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP), Geran Lestari Sustainable Developmental Goal UiTMand Research Initiative Grant Scheme (RIGS). She has presented her work at many international conferences around the world and some of her work has been published in high refereed journal. She is regularly invited by numerous organizations to give talk and conduct workshops in her area of specialization (i.e., Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Relaxation Training, and Stress, Anxiety, and Depression). However, she is currently focusing much of her time to promote the use of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in other areas such as overweight/obesity and diabetes management. 

Jamilah Hanum resides in Sri Gombak, Selangor, with her husband and two children. In her free time, she enjoys watching Hindi movie, colouring, swimming, decluttering, trying new recipes, and playing with stray cats.
