Expert Profile


Professor Dr. Ratnawati Mohd Asraf graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1977 and a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education in 1979 from Northern Illinois University. In 1995, she obtained her Ph.d from Florida State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a CGPA of 3.98 in Multilingual/Multicultural Education; and inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honour Society in recognition of academic excellence for being in the top 5% of the graduating year.
Dr. Ratnawati Mohd Asraf is currently a professor at the Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and Dean of the Research Management Centre, IIUM. She has had over 27 years of experience as an academic in the university, and is actively involved in teaching and research-receiving the Quality Research Award in 2011; Outstanding Researcher Award in 2010; IIUM Outstanding Researcher Award, Institute of Education Outstanding Researcher Award, and Quality Research Award in 2009; and Quality Research Award in 2003.
She is also actively involved in consultancy-as a lead consultant in more than ten projects commissioned by the Malaysian Science and Technology Information Centre (MASTIC); under the Ministry of Science and Technology, a lead consultant in the project, "R&D and Innovation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", a project awarded by the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia; as well as projects involving UNICEF and the Ministry of Education Malaysia. Her professional training and research has been in the areas of teacher education, curriculum and instructions, second language learning and teaching, literacy, and the use of statistics in educational research. She has published numerous books and articles in the fields of teacher education, second language teaching and learning, literacy, and the use of statistics in educational research.
