Expert Profile
Dr. Hasan Firdaus Bin Mohd Zaki is an Associate Professor and the current Director of the Centre for Unmanned Technologies (CUTe) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), specializing in computer and robotic vision, deep learning for robotic applications, and unmanned technologies. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science (Computer Vision) from the University of Western Australia, an MEng in Mechatronics from the University of Malaya, and a BEng (Hons) in Mechatronics from IIUM. Formerly the Head of Embedded AI at CUTe, he has led numerous research initiatives in areas such as autonomous surface vessels (USVs), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), vision-based defect detection in manufacturing, and volatile organic compound (VOC) gas recognition. A dedicated academic advisor and educator, Dr. Hasan has supervised many Ph.D. and Master’s students and conducted impactful workshops on deep learning and computer vision. He has published extensively in internationally refereed journals and conferences and is highly active in consultancy and research collaborations with government agencies and industries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), MIMOS Berhad, Delloyd R&D, Malaysia Space Agency (MySA), ProStrain Technologies, MARii, Hidrokinetik Technologies, and WNF Resources. His leadership continues to advance the field of engineering through the integration of AI and robotics in real-world applications.
