Expert Profile
Nordin bin Ahmad obtained his BA (Hons) degree from Al-Azhar University, Egypt in Arabic and Literature. After completion of his degree, he returned to Malaysia and worked as an Arabic teacher at a religious school in Kelantan.
He joined IIUM in July 1989 as an Arabic teacher at Quranic Language Division, Celpad. He did his master degree in Teaching Arabic as a Second Language (TASL) at Al-Khortoum International Institute for Arabic Language, Sudan. Upon completion of his master, he was appointed as an Arabic lecturer in May 1991 at the same division.
In October 2001, he went to United Kingdom to do his Ph.D degree at Birmingham University in Teaching Arabic as a Second Language for Non-Native Speakers (TASL). Upon completion of his Ph.D, he was appointed as an assistance prof (Dr.) in November 2005.
In 1991 - 1998, he was appointed as a coordinator of Arabic Language for Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Level, and in 1999 - 2001 as the Head of Quranic Language Division, CELPAD, in June 2006 - May 2007 as a coordinator for Resource / Self Access Centre. In June 2007 - May 2008, as the Deputy Head of Quranic Language Division, in March 2008, an acting Head of Quranic Language Division and in June 2008 - June 2010, he was appointed as the Head of Quranic Language Division, CELPAD.
