Expert Profile
Dr Galvin Sim Siang Lin graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (Dean’s list) in 2019, a Master of Science (Dentistry) in 2020, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2023, all from the School of Dental Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Following this, he attained his second master's degree, a Master of Medical Education with distinction, from the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, positioning him among the first few dentists in Malaysia to achieve this esteemed qualification. He also earned the Diploma of Primary Care Dentistry and the Diploma of Membership from the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, alongside the Diploma of Membership from the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Furthermore, Dr Galvin received the membership of the Institute of Health Promotion and Education, youth membership of the International College of Dentists, and associate fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom.
In 2024, he received the prestigious Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Trainers from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a testament to his unwavering dedication and significant contributions to dental education. Dr Galvin is a dedicated dental researcher with 19 national and international research awards and over 60 research publications in Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals as the first author. His research primarily focuses on restorative dentistry, endodontics, dental biomaterials, and dental education. Dr Galvin served as a dental officer at Kuching, Sarawak, under the Ministry of Health Malaysia for two years before beginning his teaching career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Dentistry, AIMST University, Malaysia. Over two years, he notably held roles as the subject coordinator for Dental Materials Science and the coordinator for the BDS Year 5 programme. Presently, he was appointed as an assistant professor at the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, International Islamic University Malaysia, where he applies his expertise in supervising general dental practice clinics, pre-clinical conservative dentistry simulation, and contributes to the faculty's dental education initiatives.
