Realising the importance of education in our life, the International Institute for Muslim Unity (IIMU) of the IIUM in collaboration with Necmettin Erbakan University Turkey, organised an international symposium on Turkish-Malaysia Higher Education: Collaboration & Opportunities. The event took place on Tuesday, 2 April 2013, at the Senate Hall and Banquet Hall, Rectory Building, IIUM.
The main objective of this event was to create awareness about contemporary issues related to university/ higher education from the perspective of Islamic tradition.
Prof. Dr Waleed Fekry Faris, Director of the IIMU, gave the opening remarks. The Honorable Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, the 4th Rector of the IIUM in his officiating remarks, suggested that this programme should an ongoing exercise and be conducted again in future. Also present at the ceremony was the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Her Excellency Serap Ataay.
This international symposium was divided into two sessions: the first session discussed on “Higher Education, Collaboration and Opportunities”. The second session focused on “Alliance of Civilisation and the Muslim Unity”. For each session, there was one moderator and four speakers who discussed on the topic. Overall, the international symposium went very well with interesting discussions on issues regarding education in the Muslim world.
