On the 15th of August 2022, the IIUM Working Committee for the Use of Cannabis and Mitragynine for Medical Purposes in Malaysia from the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy and Kulliyyah of Medicine was invited by the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) to present our views and recommendations on the future of medical cannabis in Malaysia. The meeting aimed to explore potential collaboration and research opportunities between MARDI and IIUM towards identification of the best pathways to address each scope of medical cannabis availability and accessibility in Malaysia. The presentation was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nor Ilyani Mohamed Nazar and attended by (8) eight other experts from IIUM and MARDI. The team from MARDI presented the plan on executing the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purposes and other relevant projects whereas IIUM team presented the evidence-based findings and reality (waqi’)-based evaluation in the context of Malaysian population. The two-hour session summarised the list of recommendations and potential research collaboration by the team from both institutions.
